Please find below a brief summary of the Powai ALM meeting held on 7 March 2026 with representatives from BMC departments and the Traffic Police.
**Key Issues Discussed**
1. Maintenance and Infrastructure
Several civic issues were raised including implementation of odd-even parking, lockable chains at the Panchkutir garbage dump, and overflowing sewage chambers near HFS School. Replacement of manhole covers near Noble Chemist (Heera Panna) and clearing of debris on footpaths dug up by Adani Electricity were discussed. The footpath near Lake Castle also requires repair and debris removal.
The issue of sewage manholes overflowing during the monsoon near HFS School was discussed in detail and the department was urged to address it.
2. Solid Waste Management (SWM)
The SWM Department informed that the budget is expected to be approved in April, following which at least 25 twin steel dustbins may be installed in May.
Members also raised concerns regarding the garbage dump structure at Panchkutir, which has been ineffective due to design issues. It was suggested that the structure be demolished and replaced with conventional large dustbins. The lockable chains previously installed at the dump were stolen and the department is seeking replacements from the Maintenance Department.
3. Garden Department Issues
The Garden Department noted several concerns including:
• Filling red soil in tree basins from Orchard Avenue to Hiranandani IB School
• Cleaning of the lotus pond at Heritage Garden
• Covering water tanks in Heritage Garden
• Installation of a wire fence around the lotus pond (subject to April budget approval)
• Miyawaki plantation in the forest area
• Rejuvenation of Nirvana Park opposite Powai Plaza
The official also informed that the exhibition in the open ground near the bus depot will close on 16 March, although this date was not mentioned in promotional flyers. Tree basins along Eden Market Street will be constructed as part of ongoing road cementing work.
4. License Department
Officials from the License Department were unable to attend the meeting due to urgent commitments.
5. Traffic Issues
Given the ongoing traffic congestion in Powai, members held detailed discussions with Traffic Police. The implementation of odd-even parking, management of crowd on Eden Market Street, and traffic jams at Orchard Road junctions were discussed.
Regarding the removal of the traffic roundabout at Kailash Complex Road, the Traffic Police advised that a request be submitted to the S Ward Office, as the matter falls under ward jurisdiction.
Residents were also advised to **call 100 for parking-related issues**. The problem of **motorbikes being driven at night without silencers** falls under the jurisdiction of **Rambaug Police Station**, which will need to address the matter.
**6. Pollution Issues**
Concerns regarding dust pollution from construction sites, especially near HFS School, were raised. Officials from the Pollution Department could not be contacted for this meeting.
Warm regards,
Powai ALM
