Brief summary of the Powai ALM meeting held on 7 February 2026 with BMC officials and other department representatives.

Key Issues Discussed and Updates


1. Solid Waste Management (SWM)

• Installation of 50 steel dustbins in the neighbourhood was discussed. The department will place the demand before the April 2026 budget and expects to install at least 30 dustbins by end-April or early May.

• Lockable chains at Panchkutir garbage dump had been installed earlier but were stolen. SWM agreed to reinstall them.

• Cleaning of the wall near the SRA building at Kailash Complex (MTNL building wall) will be undertaken soon.

• Washing of neighbourhood dustbins and cleaning of the Kailash Complex footpath were also raised.


2. Maintenance Issues

• Broken speedbreakers in Hiranandani Gardens will be repaired.

• Lockable chains at the Panchkutir garbage dump will be reinstated.

• Painting of road dividers from Orchard Avenue to Hira ICSE School / Hira Hospital Road was discussed.

• Request to shift the pollution board from the footpath opposite ICICI Bank, Galleria, will require consultation with the Environment Department.

• The overflowing sewage manhole near Hira ICSE School will be investigated and addressed by the sewage department.


3. License Department

• Removal of illegal hoardings continues but officials highlighted that new hoardings are installed very quickly.

• ALM members were advised to speak with Senior License Inspector Ms Shobha Rokade to increase inspection frequency.

• Removal of the bamboo structure behind hoardings opposite S M Shetty School was requested to prevent new hoardings.

• Removal of flower sellers on Ridge Road and hawkers at Panchkutir was also raised.


4. Traffic Issues

• ALM members raised strong concerns regarding traffic chaos in Powai.

• Members suggested posting traffic constables as residents often ignore private security personnel.

• The Traffic Police advised that a letter should be sent to S Ward to initiate the odd-even parking system.

• A traffic survey of Powai will be considered.

• Suggestions included removing the traffic island at Kailash Complex to ease congestion, installing pedestrian crossings at Galleria, and adding No Stopping sign boards.


5. Other Issues Raised

• Repair of footpaths from Jal Vayu B sector to Hira ICSE School.

• Repair of damaged footpaths in Hiranandani Gardens.

• Non-compliance by construction sites with dust pollution laws.

• Overflowing sewage chamber near Hira ICSE School.


Due to time constraints, detailed discussion on some agenda items (including certain repair works) could not be completed and will be taken up in the next meeting.
